If you want to see SoCal's heavy hitters, Autocon is the place to be. This year the guys at Autocon really stepped up their venue game and moved to the LA Convention Center. Even with the bigger space, they managed to fill the majority of it up - roughly 400 cars. But as an FR-S owner and fanatic, I naturally gravitated to all things Toyota. Believe it or not, my favorite car wasn't a Mark IV Supra or even a Scion FR-S, but rather Joel's old school 1972 Toyota Sprinter Trueno.

Under the hood is a 2TG with SK Racing twin side carburetor, Bosch spark plug wires, Toms header, and Crane Cams electronic ignition and keeping things cool is a Koyorad aluminum radiator. For suspension, Joel tossed the ancient factory suspension and swapped in some Eibach coilovers up front and in the rear, a set of TRD shocks. The outside is kept really clean and simple with TRD front and back spoilers as well as steel fender flares. For wheels, Joel opted for 13x8 Enkei rollers and Toyota aficionados will notice that even though it's a '72, Joel swapped out his grill and taillights for '73 versions.

There's something special about old school cars. If you do manage to find vintage parts in good condition, be prepared to drop a pretty penny. For Joel though, it's his passion. Word on the street is that he just acquired a Hakosuka from Japan...I can barely afford a SR5 Corolla.
